Red Riding Hood Revamped

On March 11, we'll get to see a new spin on a classic tale.

You may already be wondering what Little Red Riding Hood has to do with the "Big Bad" or other beasties --  aside from risqué Halloween costumes . . .

But trust me, this version of Red (Amanda Seyfried) is different.

This time, Red's no little girl and her town isn't  preyed upon by a wolf in grandma's clothing -- it's a werewolf!

Director Catherine Hardwicke describes the character as being, "brave and does stand up to the wolf and stands up to the town elders as people start turning against her. In our story the town has a lot of secrets and lies, which start unraveling. She makes all these discoveries that she has to deal with."

And what does it have to do with vampires, other than that werewolves always star in vamp movies?

Everything.

This movie has a lot of your favorite actors from former blood-sucking beastie movies such as Gary Oldman (Bram Stoker's Dracula) and Billy Burke (The Twilight Series).

However, this also seems to be a tick-mark on the ol' karma scale, as Hardwicke, who many believe got the shaft from Summit after Twilight, gets to do this gothic version of the fairy tale for Warner Bros.

Other tie-ins to vampires? According to the LA Times, Red's love, Peter (Shiloh Fernandez) was Hardwicke's runner-up for the role of Edward.

My predictions?  This will be closer to Grimms' fairy tales and Little Red is going to kick some werewolf ass! It may be so good that all the girls (and some boys) will have a female 300-complex and we'll all want to wear red capes on Halloween.
