Bill Compton might sleep in the dirt, but True Blood fans want some dirt, too.Even though they might have been grilling out or shooting fireworks to celebrate the nation's independence, a week or two without the folks from Bon Temps is a lot Truebies. So, what's happened since Bill Exorcist-raped Lorena?
True Blood is said to have broken the Vampire-Emmy curse (The LA Times reported that Buffy was continually snubbed). According to the July 8 release of nominees, the show has garnered four nominations for the Aug. 29th show (Jimmy Fallon is hosting).
True Emmy Nods
The potential awards don't include any of the actors, but mostly technical nods:
- Oustanding Art Direction For A Single-Camera Series for "Never Let Me Go", "I Will Rise Up" and "Frenzy"
- Outstanding Casting For A Drama Series
- Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup For A Series, Miniseries, Movie Or A Special for "Scratches"
- Outstanding Drama Series
- Outstanding Sound Editing For A Series for "Beyond Here Lies Nothin"
No Comic-Con for You!
Also, for those who wanted to go to the July 22-25 Comic-Com 2010 in San Diego, you're out of luck. Though Zap2It reported that Alan Ball, Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammell, Nelsan Ellis and Joe Manganiello would be present and the "True Blood" comic book would premiere, the con site indicates that its all sold out!
More Ball on HBO
According to HollywoodNews.com, Alan Ball has been tapped to launch an HBO show based on the Charlie Huston novel “The Mystic Arts of Erasing All Signs of Death”.
The novel, according to Random House (RH), is about Webster Fillmore Goodhue – a former teacher turned slacker (RH says his career “derailed by tragedy”) gets a job in LA as a member of a crime scene clean-up crew. As it usually happens, Goodhue finds himself in trouble over a girl, and RH boasts that this books is full of the stuff Truebies love – dark humor and violence.
Maybe that’s because Deadline Hollywood claims that Charlaine Harris turned Ball onto the writer. Nellie Andreeva writes: As a director, Ball will experiment with smaller, portable cameras for a cinema verite style. “The show is about contemporary Los Angeles, but not the glamorous LA, it’s about the dirty underbelly of LA,” Ball said. “We’re going to try to go against the grain, away from the overlit, stylized noir for a more frantic, contemporary, naturalistic style.” Ball is executive producing All Signs of Death through his company, Your Face Goes Here Entertainment, under his overall deal at HBO. Huston is co-executive producing, with Your Face executives Christina Jokanovich and Peter Macdissi also producing.
Wikipedia claims Cinéma vérité is French for "truthful cinema" and "is a style of documentary filmmaking, combining naturalistic techniques with stylized cinematic devices of editing and camerawork, staged set-ups, and the use of the camera to provoke subjects. It is also known for taking a provocative stance toward its topics".
Sounds like Dexter and True Blood are having a TV baby.
