This has been quite a week in the world of True Blood. First, the season three premiere kept us on our toes with a nude Eric Northman as well as a steamy man-on-man dream between Bill and Sam that made my jaw drop when I first thought it might actually be real. (See bottom of blog to see the dream.)
Writer's Digest also got in on the action with a feature about Charlaine Harris, the woman who wrote the Southern Vampire Mysteries/Sookie Stackhouse novels. Harris first got into writing after her second husband encouraged her to stay home and write. After taking a creative writing class, a teacher forwarded her stuff to an editor who took it, but it was years before Sookie emerged.
The new dish? Harris has a seven figure contract for three more in the series (now 11 if you count the short story book, 10 if you count just the novels). Dead in the Family (Sookie Stackhouse, Book 10) was recently on the bestseller list.
She also loves the HBO take on her work, loving Alan Ball's twists as well as hearing her lines directly from the books. But Harris and Truebies aren't the only ones loving Sookie. HBO tweeted yesterday that the "original shapeshifter", the D-O-Double-G, Snoop Dogg loves the babe from Bon Temps, too.
In October 2009, Snoop told MTV "I love that show. I wish I could be on it. I'd be a hell of a vampire."
He also told E! the Dogg kids love it, too. According to this article, "Snoop explained they're more into a certain vampire series on HBO than Twilight. My kids like True Blood," he said. "They're into the hard
stuff.'"
The video (sorry no MP3 for sale yet) features the rapper in Bon Temps with "Sookie" dancers in Merlotte's uniforms while snippets of the show play in the background. He sings that Bill's "not True Blood" and like Eric he won't trick her into drinking blood, and that Sam's a bitch, so she should get with the real 'Dogg'. However, I think my favorite live is "Come be on my team/We'll do it in the daytime, Bill won't know a thing".
Well, he might know a thing or two about Sam . . .
