Today, I did something that I never do. I clicked on an ad -- on purpose! I was sitting at Panera, hoping that something beyond the sea of too-much-caesar dressing would inspire me as soon as I finished my birthday Evite. There, looming above my joint Melissa and Justine birthday party invitation, was an ad. All I saw was "ideeli", "fashion" and "80%" and I was clicking faster Doc Holiday could shoot.
What is ideeli? The site calls itself a shopping community where those invited to join by friends can get up to 80 percent off! The events start at 11am, and kind of like eBay, you can buy items until time/product runs out (usually a 7-hour window). In addition, they have weekly giveaways like a six-month House of Blues membership or the Thanks a Million giveaway that includes airfare, accommodations and a shopping spree worth about $15,000.
You can also earn cash for shopping by recommending friends. If they buy something on the site, you get a $25 credit. And trust me, you could blow $25 in seconds. Some of my favorite picks are the $92 Michael Kors Taos II full/queen duvet set (originally over $300), the $32 Jessica Simpson Runway Bow Framed Clutch (originally $68, and I love it, though I don't love her), the $88 Holly Morgan Designs Frampton Dress ($200 off retail price) and the $28 yoga pants with the lace waistband that were originally $70.
ideeli seems like an ideal way to get designer merchandise without breaking the bank. Because let's face it, for $70, yoga pants better perform plastic surgery on your belly and put themselves on after work.
