In college, my favorite show was ALIAS. I never missed it, and when I had something else to do on rare occasion, my dad taped it for me. It was a guilty pleasure, a spy soap opera, and I knew it, but I loved it anyway. Now, my campy guilty pleasure is True Blood or Heroes. All of these shows can be ridiculous at times. People come back from the dead or are undead. The timeline is always changing. Characters are constantly balancing between good and evil in ways that make it hard to determine if they truly are bad guys or if they will just do what's necessary to survive of save their loved ones.
But now I see something else ties all these shows together -- overlapping characters! While it was obvious to me where I'd seen Greg Grunberg and David Anders before (Eric Weiss and Julian Sark on ALIAS), I failed to realize ALIAS' connection to True Blood until I began watching some old episodes. The evil Maryann Forrester (Michelle Forbes) played victim to the Sloane Clone as Dr. Maggie Sinclair in Season 4/Another Mister Sloane. True Blood's Lorena, who turned poor Bill Compton into a vampire against his will on his way home from the war, was in the same season in an episode called A Clean Conscience. In this episode, a man brings a bomb to a terminal (I think a train or bus station) to prove his people have a weapon. Bad guy sees a pretty girl at the counter next to him, they exchange smiles, and you see him almost hesitate to go back and save her, but he doesn't. The girl is Mariana Klaveno. TV seems like a small world sometimes.
