Look Like a Pin-up for Less

The other day, I left the house without a coat. I left the house without a coat thinking that it was going to be warm outside the way it was the day before. I left the house forgetting what Tennessee weather can have in store for all of us.

As I was leaving a class in another town (where I teach dual enrollment classes to high schoolers), it began to snow. After deciding I should have checked the weather and I was too far from home to go back and get a jacket, I stopped at the Wal-Mart near the campus.

I generally avoid Wal-Mart at all costs, but I was hoping to find a cheap hoodie to keep warm the rest of the day. Instead, I found the cutest Women's Faux-Leather Bomber Jacket made by Faded Glory. The jacket wasn't think and plasticy and it was on sale for $20!

I love 1950s and 1940s clothing, especially with a modern twist, so I wondered how easy it would be to start with the jacket and move on from there to build an outfit. Could I do it for less than $100? Less than $150?

Here's what I came up with:

Bomber Jacket - $20

The 50's Rockabilly Polka Dot Top from PacificPlex was $19.99 (plus $5 for shipping)

Jeans  - $29 at Maurices (come in short, regular and tall).

RocketDog Shoes - $27.04 at Overstock (plus $3 shipping)

Grand total after tax and shipping: $114

If you want to take the look a bit further and do your own hair in the pin-up style, my favorite tutorial video can be found here.
