Twilight Weddings are Silly, but the Cake Will Rock Your Face!

Everyone who knows me knows I love vampire books, movies and television shows -- that's why I'm writing the novel that I'm working on now. I thought the Twilight wedding inspiration board I saw in Get Married  magazine was a bit much (the mag/website is great).

When I searched online, there were tons of inspiration boards labeled "Gothic", "Twilight" or something to do with the series (like the ones above).  While some people may love the books, they may not want to go as far as to incorporate Bella, Edward, Sookie or Bill into their nuptials.

But just because you aren't going goth on your wedding day doesn't mean you can't be inspired to use the décor on other days, such as Valentine's Day, birthdays, Halloween and anniversary/engagement parties.

My initial inspiration was sparked by a page on the website Hostess with the Mostess that includes photographs and templates for picture frames and beer bottles. Other suggested party foods and décor such as Twizzlers in Twilight bags, red candles, red jewels, and apples.

One thing I found difficult to find? Twilight invitations that didn't look homemade or goofy. I suggest using  Black Damask Printable Invitation Cards like the ones currently on clearance at Crane & Co. for $7.50 (it appears that the site has a flat shipping rate of $6.95). To "Twilightify" these cards, there are several methods one could use. For the Twilight font (some call it Zephyr), visit the Quilling Patch and import the font into your database by going through your control panel settings on your computer. To spice up the invite and envelope, try tying a red ribbon around the invitation card, adding Team Jacob or Team Edward stickers to the front of the envelope (and distribute accordingly), or insert DIY envelope liners (I will upload a pic of my own homemade example soon) with apples or quotes from the book.

As far as food and drinks go, I was inspired by the drink recipes for Pomegranate Champagne Cocktail and Sangria on Hostess with the Mostess site, but I also remembered that there's already a Vampire wine that's good and fairly inexpensive (under $10 in some places). The wine would also look great in the gothic, monogrammed bags sold at Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. for $4 each. Though it's from True Blood, you can also buy faux-synthetic blood from the series for non-drinkers (it's soda) at Hot Topic. However, it's $25 for the decorative 4-pack, so you may want to use it as a centerpiece and serve red punch instead.

Amongst all the Twilight hoopla and research, nothing was more exciting for me than finding incredible, you-won't-believe-your-eyes, cakes that encompass the saga. As Edward says, "It's very common. You can Google it."  Twihards beware! These cakes might make you drool more than he did when he met Ms. Swan.
