I was cruising the Internet when I stumbled upon an email from the Container Store. I am in lust with that place, but I won't be getting a $4,000 home office any time soon. However, a girl can dream about the glory days when she'll be able to afford all the interior decorating goodies she wants. And she can window shop.
What fascinated me were these "brocade" office supplies, which would go really well with shabby chic designs. So, I decided to research what else came in this fabulous and feminine design.
I discovered that a lot of blogs mentioned a store called Brocade, but the only people buying stuff at that price may be people who have money to burn just for fun. Instead, I tried to find styles that were similar for less to give DIY decorators a "This Not That" version of the brocade look. (Trust me, I'm the kind of bargain hunter that just got over $370 in clothes delivered to my door for $90).
My bargain diva finds (and sometimes the bargain was cuter):

$215 after shipping versus $700

$142 with Shipping as opposed to $199 without even accounting for shipping

$55 with free shipping versus $400
I also loved the brocade/damask wall coverings pictured here, but I am not paying $400 for it. In addition, I think damask wallpaper takes too much time and is too busy.

Solution? Lowe's Creative Ideas Magazine suggests buying canvas or wood and using rubber doormats as stencils to make your own art. How fabulous! I would have never thought about it, it's cheap and it's easy! No one would over be able to tell!
