While looking for the newest episode of How I Met Your Mother on Hulu, I saw what the gang was wearing in this promo pic and said, "Ooooh."
As I wondered where the girls got those dresses, and when I thought back to my friend Jenn's blog about Robin Scherbatsky's navy and pink outfit, I wondered if there were better ways to find out what the stars were wearing without depending on answers from 13-year-olds on message boards.
As for the cast of HIMYM, it was easy to find this site, which indicates where Alyson Hannigan's hit-or-miss style comes from (Let's face it, some of it's great, and some of it's horrid -- especially when trying to conceal the pregnancies of both female leads with billowing shirts and big handbags). Brands/designers include Nanette Lepore, Urban Outfitters, Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg and Betsey Johnson. As for Robin, some of her styles can be found here. For example, Robin wears the Jay Godfrey Tritone Lafayette Dress (also called the Carmella Colorblock Dress online) that would be perfect (yet expensive) for next Valentine's Day, but it also comes in blue (as Ali Larter wore it).
However, after the difficulty of finding out where to get things I'd seen on It's Always Sunny for Martin (Brittany Daniel's Irish jacket) and the dress Robin wore in Season 4, Episode 1 (Do I Know You?), I will be using http://www.seenon.com/. This site tells-all about what celebs wear on and off the air and you can even request the site to find out where styles come from if you can't find out on your own.
Research what the stylists say, too. Magazines like People, interview stylists like Joseph Cassell (of Nashville). They give the 411 on what the celebs are wearing. I saw an interview with him on the 10 best dressed celebs last year where the magazine gave the skinny on some of Taylor Swift's looks (see him on the bottom left?).
My final suggestion to determine what celebs are wearing? IMDB it. I'm not kidding. Through the Internet Movie Database's trivia section, I found out that the cast of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia wears a pal's designs called Suburban Riot. The characters Mac, Dee and Charlie can be seen in their T-shirts all the time. IMDB doesn't seem so trivial anymore, does it?
