From reading this month's fashion magazines and browsing at department stores' new arrivals, I can tell you that the hottest shoe of the spring is going to be the "platform sandal".
But don't let the "platform" part confuse you -- I don't mean the chunky disco-like shoes cats (not the furry kind, but the cool people kind) wore in blacksploitation films like the recent spoof Black Dynamite. Instead, these are sandals with heels.
What I like most about this updated sandals, other than the heel, is that designers have added extra flair by using wild prints, multiple straps and metal rivets. (I think the rivets will do way better than the claims that metal chains on shoes will be in during spring 2010. I say yuck!).
In addition, you can get these sandals just about anywhere for between $30 and $200, depending upon your price range. While ladies can be frugal, I know people that would have no problem parting with their cash if it was for footwear.
While not all of us can afford Michael Kors' designs, those are some of the best examples of platform sandals and can be found at places such as Nordstrom for $99-$180. Other sites, such as Overstock, carry Jessica Simpson, Santana and Harajuku Lovers for under $50. Designer shoe warehouse is giving free shipping with $35 purchase. Macy's has buy one, get one 50% off.
Fioni Lavish Ruffle Pump
If you're really looking to save, try searching for new looks at the blog http://www.shoeaholicsanonymous.com/ or checking Payless. While Payless didn't always have the best shoe rep, the company has made a lot of attempts to clean up their acts with some close-to-designer styles for under 30 bucks. My favorite is the $25 Fioni Lavish Ruffle Pump and I also like the company's new policy on shipping -- a $5.95 flat rate. While the platform sandals will be popular, pumps are classic and I love the wild print, ruffles and other goodies on high heels as well.
Here are some of the Spring 2010 shoes I liked best:
